Some Flames Never Die
As humans we all make mistakes and have things or people in our past that we would like to forget. Sometimes we want to get away from those feeling, and a fresh start is needed. We may even move to a new city to get a fresh start. We tell ourselves that we have learned from our mistakes and we are in turn better, stronger, and happier people because of our past mistakes. So, why does it seem that sometimes our past lives come back to bite us.
It could be a song, a smell, a piece of clothing, or worst of all a phone call from someone that sends a rush of feeling over you like this warm tingling sensation that fills your brain with self doubt and regret. We begin to wonder if we really made the right decision to pack those bags, change that lock, and break the bond between the two of you that was once so strong.
Now you find yourself with these old feelings coming back stronger and faster than before. It is almost like the relationship never ended. Suddenly it’s like the past never happened. All the lies, hurtful slurs, and the anger disappear. For a few moments you truly realize why you once loved that person and how much you truly miss them.
Now you must ask yourself: Is this something that I want in my future, or is this something that is better left in my past. Now that all the anger and pain have disappeared should you try it again or just look back with a fondness that will never die? Can there be too much past to move past? Meaning that it’s nice to look back and let go of the anger, but can you ever really go back?
That’s the tough question, and the answer is going to be different for everyone. For me personally this was one of the toughest decisions I have made in a long time. The answer for me was to move forward with my life and never look back with any kind of regret. Regret is the signal of an unhappy life, and as hard as it may be to accept…sometimes some things are just better left in the past forever. Don’t get me wrong don’t ever forget that person, and learn from the mistakes that both you and your former partner made, but then leave the relationship where it belongs…in the past.
If you should decide not to take my advice and try to rekindle an old flame then I wish you the best. Hopefully things will work out better for you. Just remember two things…Never settle for second best, and of course the words to live by “Remember if they are reckless with your heart then they were never worthy of your heart from the start.”

Getting out of Dodge
Sometimes it’s good to just get out of town. Maybe its work, family, or just everything that but you need to get away. I feel ya sister! Sometimes a break can be just what you need to get yourself back to being you. First you must pick a location. When thinking about locations, maybe pick somewhere you have never been before or somewhere you love to go and just get away. I recommend somewhere that is gay friendly. I know what you may be saying “How do I know if the place I want to go is gay friendly?” Well do a little research on the net to find some great gay locations, or just figure it out when you get there. Most larger cities have some gay life.
When you get there check with the Hotel. Ask guest services about homo friendly establishments. Don’t worry if you are in the closet…this is a new town, and no one knows your name; which can be a pretty cool thing. You can do and be anybody you have ever wanted to be.
The next thing is to just walk around the neighborhoods find interesting place like coffee shops, and talk to the locals. The locals are the key to making any town a fun experience. Who knows maybe you will even find a new friend or possible a vacation affair.
The third and final thing to do is just get out there! It’s like I say all the time the time life is waiting for you. Go out and have some freaking fun! If you put yourself out there and have a good time in your life not only will you have fun, but you will attract other people to you. This is true even for me. I was recently traveling and found myself in a bar with a good friend of mine. We were sitting there talking for like an hour and were not approached by anyone. After a little while of talking to my friend we decided enough was enough, so we started approaching people. We actually met some really cools guys, and ended up having a great time. Now I know that this will not always happen, but just keep your spirits up! If the first person you talk to is a dick, don’t let him ruin your night. Keep fighting the good fight, and approach someone else. If you approach a few people and find yourself getting no where then maybe it is time to switch bars. Sometimes there are just bars that don’t work for certain individuals; try a few you will find where you are comfortable. If you happen to meet someone in one of these bars remember two things. The first is Never settle for second best, and of course the words to live by “Remember if they are reckless with your heart then they were never worthy of your heart from the start.”
